On Sunday, our last day on Langkawi, we did the other big tourist thing and rode the cable car up into the hills which we were looking up at from our beach at Mutiaru Burau Resort (see further posts). What an engineering feat, building the stations, erecting the support towers and stringing the cables. Done by a company out of where else....Switzerland. I think they have just a wee bit of experience doing this in those little hills called the Alps.
We didn't really know how long this tour would take, so we checked out of the resort. They were gracious enough to allow us to return and spend more time on their beach after our tour if we had time left before needing to get back to the ferry.....which we did. So we got to do the cable car, and still get some beach time in!!!

The cars ride up to 6 people. All the cars were totally enclosed with the exception of one. It must be the one reserved for the employee who was LATE TO WORK!! While standing in line, we ran into a couple we met on the sunset dinner cruise, so rode up and viewed with them. He is a chef from New Jersey, she a native Singaporeian. He was shortly flying to L.A., to Atlanta, to New Orlean, then to Singapore. This in final preparation to open a New Orleans style creole restaurant there. Wow, talk about crossing cultures. I wish Chris a lot of luck.

A view overlooking the bay. At the top left of the photo, you can see a breakwater circling. The breakwater, along with the two straight spits of sand island in the center of the photo, were all created after the tsunami of Christmas, 2004 in an effort to protect the bay in the future. So those two islands are man-made, along with the breakwater of course.

Looking down at the beach area, Mutiaru Burau is the left part of the sandy beach, with the little island being the left border of their beach.

This is a bridge spanning a canyon up by the cable car stations. Just like the cable car, how the heck did they get the equipment in and erect the structures??

Some random guy in a silly wide brimmed hat that got in the way of Pam's picture.
