Batik (bah-TEEK)

Shauna, Pam, Anita, Annie and Kaleb all went and did Batik one morning. It is the artistic process of outlining a pattern in wax. From there, it is basically painting by numbers but without numbers for guidance. Instead, selected colors by the participant. Once the colored inks are dried, the material is washed in HOT water to sent the ink and wash away the wax, leaving the patterned art on the material. Can make napkins, tablecloths or tapestries for framing. Also, yards of material has been patterned, then used to make uniform shirts for businesses.

The guy from the Batik shop free-hand outlining the pattern on the material with hot wax.

Prepared patterns in wax, waiting for the color selections.

Shauna (Pam's sister-in-law) and her quadrant of the material.

Anita (Pam's mom) showing off her paint by number skills.

Annie and Kaleb Batik-ing nicely together. Notice they are not painting EACH OTHER!!

Finished quadrants plus Annie's signature and heart-work in the middle.
