........we took Mom and Dad for a 2 night stay in early September. When Pam and I were up here in July we came upon the Best Western hotel at the south end of the municipal trail that we rode our bikes on. The trail came right to the entrance of the hotel and was wheelchair accessible. That meant we could get Dad out along the lakeshore. The hotel is physically oriented to that both banks of rooms are skewed to have a lake view. Various little things to do for entertainment in Manitowoc area. The municipal trail along the lakeshore, the Maritime Museum (which Gene and the boys have visited with scouts but we didn't this trip), the Conservancy grounds (with whom we paddled back in July) with an accessible boardwalk, and the West of the Lake Gardens which are privately owned and endowed, formerly a family home founded by the West family.
A good opportunity to get Mom and Dad out for a little trip away from the house but not too far that traveling is exhausting in and of itself.
Along the backside of the house overlooking the West Gardens is a glass protected area to sit and look out at the gardens while not taking the brunt of the breezes coming right off of Lake Michigan. Dad sat in that area and snoozed while we walked the gardens.

The SS Badger docks at Manitowoc twice a day when shuttling to Ludington. The dock is just across the canal (foreground) from the Best Western.
We went up to Two Rivers and had lunch at one of the municipal beaches. (The sand gets groomed each morning by an overgrown leaf sweeper pulled behind an end loader.) Mom wanted to dip her toes into the lake. If you look at the skies behind us, rain looked like it was impending (it never did rain). So we kicked off our shoes and hustled across the beach down to the water. The water was brisk!
