The previous post was our celebration of Pam's birthday. Now it is time for Gene's. Three day weekend doing outdoor stuff we like to do. Canoeing, biking and beach time with toes in the sand. Our resident travel agent (Gene) found a neat hotel right on the shores of Lake Michigan in Two Rivers, Wi. The Lighthouse Inn. A little dated, but again, right on the water. Only 2 1/2 hours from Chicago right up through Milwaukee.
Got the canoe down off the top of the Passport, ready for put-in. We paddled Saturday about 3 hours with a local conservancy group who paddles every year just to raise awareness. We paddled the West Twin River.

An Osprey nest built up on the top of a high voltage pole. We've seen similar built by eagles up in the U.P. when we'd visit Houghton. The birds were flying around and fishing, and we could hear the adolescent Osprey's chirping away from the inside the nest.
Of course we HAD to walk out to the end of the pier to check out the lighthouse marking the entrance to the harbor.
12 years old with 200+k miles and the Passport can still haul the canoe on top with both bikes inside the back. The Manitowoc / Two Rivers area has a great path running alongside the highway for bikes, walkers and rollerbladers. Right along side the lake shore so the public can enjoy the view. In Two Rivers, the path links up with another path that takes you to Point Beach State Park. A total of about 12 miles one way from Manitowoc to Point Beach S.P.
