We got an invite down to Columbia, SC to spend Thanksgiving with Christy, Sean and their kids.
So, off we went on Thursday morning. We chose not to leave Wednesday because even leaving early Wednesday morning to avoid Chicago traffic, we would have run into turkey day traffic in some other city along the way. 14 hours after leaving Thursday morning, we arrived in Columbia to an enthusiastic greeting of 5 kids and one BIG dog.......their Rottweiler named Gus. (Below, you can see Gus behind Max. Keep in mind, Max is now 6' tall and Gus is at Max's waist while on all 4's)
On Friday, Andrew and Katie came over from Charleston to share the one day post-poned Thanksgiving dinner.

The weather there was much different than Thanksgiving weather in Chicago or Midland. Long sleeves or light jacket was all that was needed. Often at home there is cold, wet sloppy snow. So this was a little respite before getting into our winter season at home.
Since the weather was as mild as it was, it was much more conducive to outdoor cooking of the turkey(s). Sean has a deep fryer for turkey, and that is how the birds were prepared. We tried that one time in Chicago, one bird in the oven, one deep fried. By the time we were able to get the oil hot enough, the oven turkey had been roasted, carved, served AND cleaned up! Just too cold in Chicago to get the oil hot enough in a reasonable amount of time.

Whle the men were outside fulfilling their hunting and gathering duties, the girls worked hard on dessert. Maddie, Megan and Aunt Pam are putting together pumpkin pie. What's Thanksgiving without that?
