Beach Day in KENOSHA!! Whooda thunk?

With the close of summer approaching, we realized we had not had much in the way of beach time. We like the beaches on the Michigan side of Lake Michigan, but didn't feel like fighting traffic around through Indiana. Yet we know that Zion is rocky and hard on the feet. So we decided to head just over the Wisconsin line, go as far east as we could without getting wet, and then start heading north watching for beaches. We didn't need to go too far north. On the lake shore in Kenosha is Simmons Island beach and park. A nice little, sandy cove of beach next to a channel that services the boat harbor behind the island. Not terribly busy with people, boats to watch come in and out of the harbor....sail boats, cabin cruisers and big, MANLY speed boats that roar away as they head out into the big water.
We found it 3 weeks ago, and went back last weekend. There just so happened to be a 3rd annual car show there last weekend. Gene went and checked out the cars. 1938 Huppmobiles (2), Nash's, Edsels, custom rods, late 60's - early 70's muscle cars, and modern day wannabe muscle cars.
Hopefuly we'll get a last breath of summer weather and we'll head up there one last time before Fall settles in.
